Braathen Construction Company Profile
The Orange County firm Braathen Construction in Costa Mesa CA was founded in 1976 by Aage Braathen and continues with Odin Braathen, a third-generation builder with more than 35 years of experience in construction. Odin explains that it comes down to an emphasis on quality workmanship and a commitment to honesty. Braathen Construction takes quality workmanship seriously. We don't rely on putty and paint conceiling improper cuts.
There's a correct procedure that contractors should follow when building. If the construction method wasn't good, you can't tell after that final coat of paint goes on, but it will be obvious in a year or two. At Braathen Construction we like to think of each building as a boat and we build with the objective of making it float. Braathen Construction is an extremely versatile builder, serving clients for residential and commercial buildings, tenant improvements, remodels, new construction, finish carpentry. We also specialize in repairs and historic restoration. On a recent restoration of a 1954 building we kept as many of the original components as we could by rebuilding the steel sash windows and refinishing all of the exposed steel structure in order to maintain the era of the building. Inside, we reinforced the steel with seismic cross-bracing that is exposed through the windowsills and casing.
Our crew is dedicated to completing the smallest details right the first time regardless the size of the job. Our objective is to give our clients the quality workmanship which they expect from having worked with us. We work with an open book policy and our records are accessable to our clients at any time. Braathen Construction crews also evaluate the work to look for potential future conflicts that may be overlooked. Every morning we review the previous day's work for the day ahead and look for any adjustments that need to be made to keep the job going according to plan. Any modifications are then incorporated into the plan rather than having them resurface at an untimely future date.
Employees' integrity is integral to our business phylosophy. All of our employees are screened for drugs and driving records prior to employment.
Sub-Contractors are also screened for proper licensure and insurance. This is especially important for electrical work since it is a State requirement that every person handling high voltage need to pass the trade portion of the Electrical Exam.
Odin Braathen was born in Norway and was brought to California as a child when his family emigrated. Odin comes from a family tradition of builders, with both his grandfather and father having been in construction. Odin has lived in Costa Mesa since 1956, and he still cares for his mother who lives near him. He is a licensed pilot who has flown aerobatic planes, other light aircraft, and he has a passion for mechanical things, especially steam locomotives. People who know Odin describe him as friendly and caring, and clients as reliable with the ability to fix anything. With a 35 year history of honesty and old-world quality workmanship, Braathen Construction in Costa Mesa CA is a versatile builder for everything from residential and commercial, new construction to remodeling, restoration and more. And it's headed by a third-generation builder who learned the trade from his father, as his father did before him.
